The gonads, or the ovaries and testes, produce male and female reproductive cells and secondary sex characteristic determining hormones to the entire body.

Corpus luteum of the ovaries produces Progesterone- aids in the maintenance of pregnancy
Estrogen- aids in the development of secondary sex characteristics and regulates ovulation

Testosterone- stimulates the development of secondary sex characteristics (horns in ram, boar tusks, shoulder width in cattle and horses)
Note: testosterone is also produced in small amounts from ovaries and the adrenal cortex

Female Reproductive Organs, fully labeled- note the ovaries

Male gonads- the testis removed from their scrotal sac
